Music is taught throughout the school using the ‘Music Express’ scheme. Children are encouraged to enjoy a wide variety of music through listening, singing, playing instruments and composing. We also aim to organise educational visits from and into school, e.g. KS2 children attend Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra concerts in the Guild Hall, Preston.
Children in KS2 have the opportunity to learn to play an instrument in school. The school employs music specialists from the Lancashire Education Authority’s music service to provide tuition for those children wishing to learn to play instruments, currently guitar, woodwind and brass. Singing is also encouraged in school and the children are provided with many opportunities to sing in a large groups, in small groups and for some children, in a solo part.
The children are frequently given opportunities to ‘showcase’ their talents in concerts, talent shows, Church services, school productions and community links.
